BlackJack

Blackjack or 21 is a very popular table game at both land based casinos and online casinos.

The game of blackjack can be played using different numbers of card decks. A game can use a minimum of one deck and a maximum of eight decks of cards. Specifically, you can play blackjack using a single deck, two decks, four decks, six decks, or eight decks.

The player gets dealt 2 cards and the dealer 1 card.

The idea of Blackjack is to get a hand as close to 21 as possible, but if your cards add up to more than 21, then it means you have "bust" and you lose the hand. All of the face cards which are your jacks, queens, kings etc have a value of 10, and the Ace can be valued at either 11 or 1, depending on which suits your hand better.

If your 1st 2 cards do not add up to 21, then you can ask the dealer to give you another card. Obviously if you had 2 cards that total 19 or 20, then it would be silly to ask for another card as you would risk exceeding 21 and then you would lose the game.

Once you are happy with the cards you have, you can then "stand" and then the dealer will continue to deal the other players their cards. Once all of the players have chosen their cards, the dealer then draws his second card. If his hand is less than 17, then he must draw another card which could make the dealer "bust" and then everyone on the table will win, regardless of the value of their cards. If the dealer has more than a 17, then he must stand, and he will pay the players who have higher cards than him.

Playing BlackJack

There are many different tricks and tips to playing blackjack. For example you can surrender, double up, split and many other things you will see blackjack players doing. The best bet would be to make small bets at a table and watch to see what the other players do, and how they play the game. You will pick up the rules in no time, but as long as you follow the basic guidelines above and below - you won't upset other players.

Your main objective is to hope for a Blackjack, which is a face card and an Ace!

BlackJack Rules

Below we have summarised the blackjack rules in simple english so that beginners can understand.

You can draw additional cards ( up to a maximum of 9 ) until you get 21.

If you go over 21, then you "bust' and you are out of the game.

The dealer must stand on 17 and continue to draw cards on 16 or lower.

Face cards ( Jack, Queen and King) have a value of 10.

An ‘Ace’ card can have a value of either 11 or 1.

If you get an Ace and a Face card you will automatically have blackjack and will be paid 3 to 2.

If you get 2 cards of the same value, then you are allowed to split them and play each of them as 2 seperate hands.

If the total of your 1st 2 cards is 9, 10 or 11 then you are allowed to ‘Double.’ which means you can place a 2nd bet the same as your original amount.

You can place insurance, so that if the dealer gets a blackjack then you will be paid 2 to 1.

If your hand is the same as the dealers hand at the end of the game, then this is called a "push" and you just receive your bet back, so you would be square.
